CHLOE + SEAN: 10 YEARS OF BLISS + COUNTING

Chloe and Sean. Sigh.

You want to talk about a great love story - it’s Chloe and Sean. Together for 10 years, booked their wedding venue site unseen (ugh, COVID), planned from the west coast - showed up, easy, breezy and had the party of the century. Impressive, to say the least.

Their wedding weekend was full to the brim with love and support from their friends and family, who traveled far and wide to join at the forever gorgeous Cunningham Farm for the wedding day. Also traveling to Maine was Bonita Gabrielle - Chloe and Sean’s incredibly talented photographer from the Pacific Northwest. Without Bonita's incredible photos this blog would just be a stream of words - so many thanks to Bonita for the beautiful gallery.

Chloe and Sean are 10 years in the making. They met through a mutual friend in 2011 in Seattle where Chloe lived (sidenote: always a fan of a mutual friend connection, it’s like an instant background check). Their first date they “went to a very fun gay bar in Capitol Hill for Halloween and partied with their friends and a bunch of drag queens in awesome costumes.” So they both knew the other liked to have fun - hugely important let’s be real, and who does not love fantastic drag queens?! Winning.

Chloe says that it was an instant connection with Sean and that “I was head over heels for Sean the day we met. There is something so fun and magnetic about him. He is one of the most charismatic people I’ve ever met and makes me laugh harder than anyone. The fact that he also loves to travel and is game for anything has kept things exciting the past 10 years.”

And Sean felt that buzz too. He says “the first time I met Chloe I immediately knew that I needed to see her again, and I instantly started scheming on how quickly I could get back to Seattle again.  There are a lot of cliché expressions around feeling “sparks”, but that is the closest way I can describe the feeling of first meeting her.  Chloe was clearly special and had such a great outlook on life there was no question that I was going to chase after her.“

After their initial meeting, Sean went to visit family in Arizona on his way from Boston to Colorado when his car broke down applied for a job in Arizona (which he got) and decided to stay. And so a long-distance romance began. The new job “fortunately, was with US Airways which meant endless free travel and frequent visits between AZ and Seattle.” And of course, they eventually joined forces in the same state, when they’d had enough of the back and forth! So the love story continued. . .

How did Sean go about popping the question to this lovely lady? Chloe writes that “. . . it was a foggy fall morning, and we were staying at Captain Whidbey on Whidbey Island for a little staycation. We took a walk down the dock by the water where it was just us and Sean got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. I was not expecting it and kept stopping to take photos on the way down to the dock which he still teases me about.” And would you look at that ring! Hubba, hubba.

Chloe’s engagement ring was custom made by Joseph Jewelry.

And so began the wedding planning - they found Cunningham Farm and just had a feeling about it - Chloe says, “Somehow, we just knew it was the perfect place and to our surprise it ended up being even more beautiful and breathtaking when we finally got to see it in person.”

The Wedding Day. You know those summer days that are just absolutely perfect? Low 70’s, slight breeze that really is only there when absolutely necessary, sun is out, it’s just plain pleasant? Yeah, that was the weather the day of Chloe and Sean. Naturally it rained buckets during their rehearsal the day before, but we got that right out of the way, and the wedding day was a summer dream.

Chloe and her bridesmaids got ready in the Bridal Suite on site and were gussied up properly by the fabulous team from Lavender Salon. Chloe let her bridesmaids choose their dresses which they found from Doen, Ulla Johnson, and Anthropologie. Chloe’s dress (still cannot get over the wedding dress with pockets) was Sarah Seven. They had their adorable invitations curated through Minted working with Beth Freeman Illustration, who perfectly captured the bride and groom in a playful illustration in front of their wedding venue. Could not love this more.

Sean and his groomsmen got ready in the Carriage Barn on site. To make the Carriage Barn space their own they rented some furniture, blue goblets and a playful outdoor table and umbrella from A Family Affair of Maine to adorn the space. And of course as they got ready they played lawn games - who wouldn’t want to throw some bean bags on that gorgeous green lawn?! Chloe and Sean got custom vow books from Sunny Home Studio, which they both used during the ceremony. Sean’s dashing suit was from Beckett and Robb.

Hopsfield Farm (known as Watershed Floral at the time of this celebration) created masterpiece after masterpiece. From Chloe’s beautifully boho flower crown and wild greenery adorning the arbor, to the most gorgeous bridal bouquet and greenery lining each farm table with sprigs of additional of greenery and roses adorning the length of the tables - good gracious me. Nothing but pure talent and thoughtful touches from the floral side of things.

Chloe and Sean’s First Look. Under the most magical tree - and such emotion and joy. And the pictures that followed are extra swoon-worthy, as the two smitten lovebirds had the expansive property to themselves to capture their first moments seeing each other on their wedding day.

Their wedding ceremony was how you picture your destination wedding in Maine. Sunny, comfortable, and surrounded by your VIPs. It went off without a hitch, officiated by their friend Steven.

Chloe and Sean love their people. You feel that love just watching them interact with each other. Chloe’s bridesmaids were supportive, caring, and wholesome. And you could tell the bond between Sean and his groomsmen was one that stood the test of time. Their families were kind and helpful and just plain nice - not surprising after getting to know these two gentle souls.

Let’s talk reception. Cocktail hour took place in and around the Hay Barn, and their dinner and dancing was in the Dairy Barn. The Dairy Barn was decked out by Griffin and Griffin with a perfect combination of twinkle lights and drapery - and then grapevine orb features adorned with twinkle lights hanging were clustered over the dance floor. Inside it was like a sparkling summer night and simply magical. Farm tables were set for guest dining and a classic cross-back chairs was arranged for each guest to be seated. Each place setting was adorned with navy napkins and blue crystal goblets and the center of each farm table had timeless greenery by Hopsfield Farm. Rentals were provided by Savvy Event Rentals and there was a killer lounge complete with a large blue and ivory rug, equipale chairs and loveseat, and ivory capiz side tables by A Family Affair of Maine.

Chloe and Sean had pizza as the main course at their wedding. I’m sorry but if you have pizza at your wedding you are in a new category of chill + fun. They also had aperol spritzes as a signature cocktail. I mean….. does it get any more refreshing than an aperol spritz on a summer night? Short answer: no it does not. All this was accomplished with elegance and ease by Fire and Company.

THE CAKE. Holy Moly. Skye’s Artisan Bakes is baking genius and this masterpiece still is something I dream about. I’m talking 2 types of cake here - vanilla blueberry with honey vanilla buttercream, and lemon with honey vanilla buttercream. And are you seeing the blackberries, the PEARS, the drizzle of honey?! This cake was simply beautiful. Oh, and let’s not forget Fire and Co also whipped up their absolutely amazing wood-fired Reese’s s’mores an additional sweet treat for guests to enjoy.

After a delicious dinner, speeches, and toasts the dancing took off and didn’t stop until the very last song. These folks were party animals, let me tell you. When the final song was complete everyone enthusiastically piled into the shuttles provided by Northeast Charter and headed to The Yard, for the afterparty.

After their wedding weekend Chloe and Sean stayed in Maine a bit longer - they spent the next few days in Maine enjoying Bar Harbor and spending time with friends in New Harbor. Why leave Maine right after your wedding?! STAY. It’s beautiful. There’s so much to see. They did this right :)

And how about a honeymoon? Says Chloe “we waited a few months after our wedding when we felt a little more recharged and went to Kauai and Maui which were both super dreamy. Also, it felt very COVID friendly since you’re mostly outside soaking in the sunshine, swimming, hiking - and drinking too many Mai Tais.” (Mai Tais….mmmmmm - just so happens my husband and I did this same exact thing - a mini moon followed by jetsetting to Maui and Kauai months later….great minds think alike.)

We are so happy to have been a part of Chloe and Sean’s wedding. I want to note that throughout the planning process every email I received from them was so nice. So respectful. Like Chloe took the time to acknowledge each of my ideas and thank me. You don’t see that every day folks! I told her that on the first Zoom we ever had (and told Sean how lucky he was to have such a thoughtful woman by his side - he couldn’t agree more). Congratulations to Chloe and Sean!
